Introduction

Union Films is one of the best and easiest groups to get involved with. Don't take our word for it; come along and find out. It doesn't cost you anything to join, and the benefits are great: you're part of a team, running a real student cinema, learning how to show films on industry-standard equipment and gaining skills that will not only look good on the CV, but will stand you in good stead later on.

Feel free to email us or pop into the office to find out more about us. We hold officer elections midway through the year, with the chance to get more involved with more responsibility and an opportunity to have a hand in the shaping of Union Films in the future. We always have a noisy table at the bunfight in Fresher's Week, as well as information in the handbook. We try to hold talks in the cinema over Fresher's Week as well so you can come and meet us, but the best place to start is definitely in the office, which is opposite Bar 3 on level three of the Union. We offer positions in Front of House, Publicity, Finance, Computer and Projection, so there's no excuse not to have a go!

I shall describe a bit about what I do. As Film Secretary, it is my job to choose films and oversee the general smooth running of Union Films along with the Deputy Film Sec. I am also the voice and face of Union Films on Union boards and committees, and our liaison with other departments. My biggest job this year has been to be the liaison for the redevelopment and to make sure that Union Films has a voice in decisions- this is an important part of being FS during any year. It's demanding but fun, and I would recommend Union Films for anyone who loves film, is curious about how its done and wants to be part of the best department in the Union, ever!
